Why Buy Dee's Art?
Just why should you spend time on my web site and then purchase a piece of art work from someone you don't even know? Well, I want you to get to know a little about who I am as an artist by looking at my art and reading about Dee Van Houten. When you view my work, I want you to 'feel' the magic of the colorful birds, fish, and other animals I have splashed across my paper.I write to you from the heart and that's how I paint. My work is soothing to the senses and that was one of the reason's why, when I sold several of my animal art works to a local hospital in Warrenton, Virginia, they hung the works in pediatrics and waiting rooms to give them a more healing atmosphere to the people who needed it.
Other reasons you might buy my art is that you love animals as much as I do. Whether its the beauty and charm of tropical birds, or the jewel-like colors of clownfish and other tropical fish that draw you into the picture plane.
The colors in my paintings are vivid without being overpowering. The details are there too, with just enough to delight the senses, but without overwhelming the viewer. I mostly work in gouache (opaque watercolor), watercolor, and color pencil, although I use oils and graphite, depending on which medium would be best for the subject I might paint or draw. I also create monotypes. Here are my zebra monotype as an example.
